In cooperation between the Lebanese-Chinese Business Association (LCBA) and the Chinese Embassy in Lebanon. Lebanon participates in a training course on the agricultural sector promoting Lebanese agricultural products in China
Beirut, June 20, 2024
A special seminar on agricultural product trade and investment promotion in Lebanon was recently launched in the Chinese capital, Beijing, with the participation of a Lebanese delegation composed of four members selected by the Lebanese Chinese Business Association, in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Lebanon and the Executive Leadership Academy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, which is hosting the seminar.
The seminar covers a wide range of topics, including measures that facilitate the trade and promotion of Lebanese agricultural products in China, as well as the Chinese experience in the agricultural sector.
The President of the Lebanese Chinese Business Association, Ali El Abdallah, stated that the Lebanese delegation’s visit to China and its participation in the seminar and related activities represent a highly valuable experience, given the extensive expertise possessed by Chinese institutions in the agricultural sector — whether in terms of agricultural technical skills and know-how, or in promoting agricultural investment and opportunities for exporting to China.
He added that this is not the first visit organized jointly by the Lebanese Chinese Business Association and the Chinese Embassy in Lebanon, as the Association has previously helped organize dozens of visits covering economic, commercial, and cultural themes, in addition to introductory visits during which Lebanese delegations were introduced to China’s experiences, knowledge, and achievements in various fields. The Association will continue to contribute to organizing such visits with the Chinese Embassy, given their great importance and the many benefits they bring.
Currently taking part in the seminar being held in Beijing which will also include the city of Chongqing are Engineer Ghada Hanna Al Bitar, Head of the delegation and Director of the Agricultural Scientific Research Station in Abdeh, along with Engineer Hussein Abu Yehya, Engineer Abdallah Al Hanash, and Mr. Mohamad Ahmad Al Hayek.
The program includes specialized lectures, informational and practical sessions, dialogue meetings, and field visits. It also features activities introducing the delegation to China’s geography, history, culture, and socio-economic development.
The visit will also address topics related to the agricultural sector, such as an overview of China’s distinctive path toward agricultural modernization, the stages, achievements, expertise, and modern policies that support the sector. The seminar will highlight policies that promote the trade of agricultural products in China and procedures that facilitate trade between Lebanon and China.
Through practical examples and explanations, participants will be introduced to China’s agricultural investment system and notable cases of successful overseas agricultural investments. The sessions will also cover e-commerce for agricultural products in China, particularly “vertical selling” applications for fresh produce, as well as China’s agricultural product distribution systems such as wholesale markets, the development of olive cultivation in China, and the latest trends in production and marketing.
Part of the activities will focus on reviewing the large and small machinery used in China’s agricultural operations, agricultural product manufacturing, and international agricultural cooperation.
Field visits will also be organized to wholesale agricultural markets and vertical selling markets for fresh produce in Beijing, in addition to exploratory visits to Chongqing, home to leading companies specializing in the production of high-quality agricultural products seeking international cooperation opportunities. The agenda will also include various cultural visits that allow participants to closely experience China’s history, society, and lifestyle.
It is noteworthy that the Executive Leadership Academy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, which is hosting these seminars and field visits, is an academic, research, and training institution responsible for preparing administrative, technical, educational, and entrepreneurial personnel in rural China.
The Academy also promotes national agricultural policies, conducts studies, and provides consultations in areas such as land and agricultural resource management, rural governance, monitoring agricultural economies, and developing modern agriculture.
Given its focus on international cooperation, the Academy has established a coordination system headed by its director to provide technical training to friendly countries within the framework of China’s foreign aid programs.
Since 2004, the Academy has organized around 100 training programs, including 80 in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, with the participation of approximately 2,200 agricultural professionals from various countries. These programs have all received praise and appreciation from the concerned authorities for their high quality and excellent services.
Many of these training programs include Arabic-language seminars on rural and agricultural development, such as the promotion of olive oil trade and other distinguished agricultural products from Lebanon.
