President of the Lebanese-Chinese Business Association, Ali Mahmoud El Abdallah: The IDPs are our people and their steadfastness is the steadfastness of all Lebanon

Beirut, November 25, 2024

The Lebanese Chinese Business Association, in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Lebanon, continued the implementation of a broad initiative to support displaced families through the provision of health-related supplies.

The initiative involved several stakeholders engaged in displacement relief and covered Akkar Governorate, the city of Saida and its surrounding areas, as well as a number of municipalities, associations, and relevant organizations.

The President of the Lebanese Chinese Business Association, Ali Mahmoud El Abdallah, stated that this initiative reflects a firm commitment to supporting displaced families in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy, adding:

“The displaced are our people, and their resilience is the resilience of all Lebanon.”

For its part, the Chinese Embassy emphasized the importance of providing assistance to the displaced, noting that Lebanon, which is going through a critical and challenging humanitarian phase, will be able to overcome difficulties and rise again, especially amid continued national and international solidarity.

The Governor of Akkar, Imad Labaki, said that the initiative by Ali Mahmoud El Abdallah, in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy,

“constitutes an additional motivation for all of us to continue our efforts to support the displaced in the Akkar region.”

He added:

“I held a meeting that included the Disaster Management Room in Akkar at the Halba Governmental Serail, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Red Cross, the UN agencies and programs operating in Lebanon, as well as coordinators of several local associations. During the meeting, we conducted a comprehensive assessment and discussed the main challenges we face. We will not hesitate to exert every effort necessary to support the displaced, whether inside or outside the shelters. However, we are currently facing a major challenge in securing electricity and fuel to ensure heating during the winter season. Once again, I salute all those offering support, and I call on everyone willing to help to give Akkar the attention it urgently needs as the needs are immense.”

Dr. Hazem Badih , the Mayor of Saida, said following a meeting with El Abdallah:

“Our nation is facing a brutal war, and our people who have been displaced from their homes need our support in every aspect. We responded swiftly to successive waves of displacement from various areas in the South and managed to overcome many challenges, as the scale of displacement in such a short period exceeded the capacity of any official institution in Lebanon. However, the Operations Room of the Disaster Risk Management Unit in the Municipality of Saida accomplished the impossible to ensure all the essentials for the resilience of the displaced.”

He continued:

“I extend my appreciation to Ali Mahmoud El Abdallah and the Chinese Embassy  their initiative is an essential step. I also express my gratitude to all local associations and organizations active in the city for their major contributions, particularly in managing shelters and providing vital supplies in all areas. With the start of the rainy season and the drop in temperatures, significant efforts are required, and we expect a sharp increase in the needs of the displaced on all levels. For this reason, we welcome every supporting entity, as the scale of displacement exceeds our capacities but we are determined to continue fulfilling our role no matter how difficult the circumstances.”

It is worth noting that in Saida and its surroundings, the initiative covered:
Saida Municipality, Haret Saida Municipality, Majdelyoun Municipality, Baramieh Municipality, as well as the Maarouf Saad Cultural and Social Foundation, the Nazih Bizri Foundation, the Najda Shaabiyah Association, Ahlouna Association, Olfat Association, the Human and Environment Development Association, and the Popular Solidarity Foundation for Health Services (Martyr Rasheed Broom Clinic).

In Akkar, the initiative included the Disaster and Crisis Management Unit in Akkar Governorate, several municipalities, the Lebanese Popular Rescue Association in Halba, the Zakat Fund, the Rahbeh Crisis Cell, the Islamic Orphanage, Akkar Life Organization for Sustainable Development, Akkar Villages Development Association, the Akkar Youth Union Association, and the Lebanese Action Committee in Akkar.
