Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a New Year’s message on the eve of 2022 via China Media Group and online platforms.

Greetings to everyone. As we approach 2022, I am pleased to extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes from Beijing for the New Year!

Looking back on this past year, it has been one of extraordinary significance. We witnessed major events that mark historic milestones for both the Party and the State. The “Two Centenary Goals” intersected in a historic moment, launching a new journey toward building a modern socialist country in all respects. We are now advancing with high morale and broad steps on the path to achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Throughout the year, from beginning to end, we have worked tirelessly in agriculture, enterprises, neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, military barracks, and scientific academies. We have strived, contributed, and reaped results. The China we have seen and experienced over these fleeting days is resilient, prosperous, and rapidly developing, with a beloved and respected people and enduring, continuous endeavors.

We solemnly celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China on July 1. Standing on the Tiananmen Tower balcony, I felt deeply moved: through a history full of changes and challenges, the Communist Party of China, with steadfast determination and resilient spirit, has led hundreds of millions of Chinese people to overcome hardships and achieve the greatness of a century-old Party. By remaining true to our original aspiration, we can work from a good beginning toward a successful outcome. There is no choice but to work diligently and tirelessly to fulfill the expectations of history, the era, and the people.

The Party adopted its historic Third Plenary Session decision at the Sixth Plenary of the 19th Central Committee. The achievements of the past 100 years inspire us, and the experiences of the past century guide us. I have previously mentioned the “Cave Dialogue” between Chairman Mao Zedong and Huang Yanpei, emphasizing the need for self-reform and initiative in history. The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation will not come easily or through celebrations alone; it requires long-term vision, vigilance even in peaceful times, and strategic perseverance, as the Chinese saying goes: “Meticulous work leads to great ambitions.”

In a country as large as China, priorities abound. Ultimately, the vast affairs of the nation affect every family. In my visits to various regions, I have observed many conditions and drawn inspiration and lessons. Whenever I meet families, I inquire about their difficulties, and their words remain engraved in my heart.

I remember the concerns of the people and act on their aspirations. Coming from a rural background, I have firsthand experience with poverty. Thanks to the continuous efforts of successive generations, those who once suffered from poverty now have access to food, clothing, education, housing, and healthcare. Building a well-off society in all respects and lifting the Chinese people out of poverty is the Party’s fulfillment of its commitment to the people and a contribution to the world. Yet, for a better life for our people, achievements alone are not enough; much work remains ahead.

The Yellow River embodies the aspirations of the Chinese people for thousands of years. In recent years, I have visited all nine provinces along the upper, middle, and lower reaches of the river. From the Yellow River and Yangtze River, known as “Mother Rivers,” to Qinghai Lake, the Yarlung Zangbo River, the South-to-North Water Transfer Project, Sihangba artificial forests, the journey of elephants from Yunnan, and the movement of Tibetan antelopes, all of this demonstrates that when humans respect nature, nature rewards them in return.

This year has been filled with unforgettable Chinese voices, moments, and stories: young people pledging, “Trust me, Party, I will work hard for national rejuvenation”; the pure love for China; the “Zhurong” Mars rover; the “Shihe” solar satellite; the “Tianhe” space capsule among the stars; athletes striving for excellence; efforts against the pandemic; assistance to disaster-stricken citizens; and the dedication of the People’s Liberation Army and armed police. Countless ordinary heroes form a flowing current that propels China forward in the new era.

The prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao remain a priority. The principle of “one country, two systems” can only be maintained through unity and joint effort. The complete reunification of the homeland reflects the shared aspirations of citizens on both sides of the strait. We sincerely hope all Chinese people will move forward hand in hand, striving together for a bright future for the nation.

Global leaders and international organizations have repeatedly praised China’s efforts in fighting the pandemic. To date, China has provided two billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to more than 120 countries and international organizations. A new chapter in building a shared future for humanity can only be written through solidarity and cooperation in facing challenges.

The Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics will open in just over a month. Encouraging wider participation in ice and snow sports is a key goal. We will present a grand Olympic event to the world with care and dedication. All eyes are on China, and China is ready.

As the New Year bell soon rings, three Chinese astronauts embark on a space mission. Overseas Chinese continue to work diligently, as do Chinese mission staff, company workers, and students abroad. Countless dream chasers persist in their efforts and contributions. I sincerely appreciate your hard work and extend my heartfelt New Year greetings to you all.

Let us work together toward the future! May our country be stable and prosperous, and may our people enjoy safety and well-being!
